Whoopsie - I bought a 2 year old Nikon 50mm AF-S f1.8G

This is to replace my 50mm f1.8D from 2002. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_AF )
The 50mm D lens has no auto-focus motor, and even though I can use autofocus with my D7100, it doesnt focus well at all. Its also not great in dark environments, images come out quite soft when zoomed in and peeked at.

Compared to my Nikon AF-S f1.8G 35mm, from the same era as the new AF-S 50mm, the old 50mm D lens is pretty bad.

Virus posting

I have a half written blog post about the benefits of carrying 2 camera bodies to shoot events.

Worth finishing it? Or nah?

Small thought:

Face masks are considered cyberpunk-cool.
But they're only in cyberpunk universes because pollution is so bad that you gotta wear one...kinda like our over-populated cities today. 😷

I a proper haircut for the first time in quite a while and I'm very very pleased with it πŸ’―

I installed iperf today and it reported a throughout of about 150 Megabits Per Second transfer from my laptop to my server over wifi.

πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I don't have any idea if that's good or not.

Life is like C++ β€” the fact that you can do something doesn't mean you should.

Not sure how to actually test it and see though!

While doing this I also noticed my download speed drop to a painful 10Mbps, which might also be attributed to the Superhub having trouble with the high load.

I tried using SSHFS to edit files on my laptop last night.

Performance was pretty good! The workflow worked well!
Until...possibly my Virgin Superhub router/switch kinda choked and ping times between my laptop and server got into the 1000s of milliseconds.

I guess essentially copying large Nikon RAW files back and forth was a bit too taxing for the Superhub's switch, because neither my server, nor laptop were struggling.

Hey, Photographers who use Linux and have home-servers: Whats your workflow for post-processing/sorting etc.

I currently copy files from SD onto an external hdd, use Darktable to process them, then copy the files onto my server.

But, this is rubbish, I would like to process with Darktable, but avoid copying 10s of GBs of photos onto a slow HDD, then again over a network...only to have to copy them back to a local disk if I want to do further Darktable processing at a later date.

I don't really want to replace this board because its broken - just that the finish is rubbing off the face-plate and the keys are gross.

A YouTube video made me think about getting a new mechanical keyboard to replace my...aging one bought in like, 2012? ⌨️

But it is so hard to find a reasonably priced TKL board without lights in.

Its also impossible to find Cherry MX Black keyswitches.

I think I paid £70 for this TKL, MX Black board. You can still buy this keyboard from CoolerMaster - but only in MX Red, Blue and Brown switches 😩

There's nothing like seeing photos you took displayed really prominently!

I took those images on the board to the right last year.
Back again today to shoot an event here today!

I'm shooting an indoor event today and I'm bringing essentially my entire camera equipment collection in my kit bag. πŸ“·

I could make intelligent decisions about what I'm likely to need and bring the minimum. Buuut it's kinda easier to just bring almost everything.

Nikon D7100
Nikon D3300

Sigma 17-70mm F2.8
Nikon 128mm F1.8
Nikon 50mm F1.8
Nikon 35mm F1.8

Flashgun

I probably won't need the D3300, or the flash.
But they fit in the bag, so why not bring them!

Remote working is all well and good - but remote working from a different city is kinda haaarrrrddd.

Need to find somewhere to work, co-working spaces are either expensive, or monthly only.

Coffee-shops are noisy and not good for taking calls in.

People somehow have time before work to make pancakes???? What???
